CREATIVE DIRECTOR / CHOREOGRAPHER

Marissa-Alma Nick is native to Miami, the founder of 'Alma Dance Theater' and the founding director of 'ScreenDance Miami' (produced from 2014-2016 by Mary Luft and Tigertail Miami) for the festivals first three years. She is a high school graduate from the celebrated New World School of the Arts, received her BFA in dance performance from the University of South Florida and participated in the Creative Capital Professional Development Program. Post graduation, she moved to Los Angeles and worked in the commercial industry as a freelance-dancer,  and moved back to Miami with the production of Rock of Ages (the movie) in 2011. Inspired by being back in Miami and connecting to her home roots, she decided to stay and launched her choreographic and entrepreneurial career.

Marissa’s as a Creative Director and Choreographer specializes in creating an entire world to shape her vision which highlights the story she aims to tell, as well as the artist or company she may be working with. She is known to utilize spaces in a unique and immersive way, while cultivating a directed narrative and theme. Her signature style blends the hyper feminine, dark and twisted while being humorous... all in one.

Her self produced immersive performances exist on stage, music video, site-specific settings, screen-dances, and conceptual installations. She is a 2018/2019 of the Miami Choreographer Award and 2017 recipient of the Knight Arts Award. So far her work has been commissioned by Faena Miami, Miami Design District, Art Basel Miami, Tigertail Productions, Filmgate Interactive, Vizcaya Museum, Dance Now Miami and Nova Southeastern University. She has been awarded support through Miami-Dade County Cultural Affairs, Miami Light Project and Miami-Dade County Auditorium. Also, she has also received two Artist Access Awards to attend the international screendance festival 'Cinedans' in Amsterdam. Her work has been featured for visual artists Alejandro Guzman, Jenny Perez, Christina Petterson, Pablo Cano and Paula Crown.
